I recently purchased a carlinkit and tried it for a while but was not pleased. It worked fairly well sometimes. This is not a complaint about carlinkit though. I have always used my phone with direct cable to get CarPlay since I purchased my Goldwing in 2019. At first I would keep the phone in the glove box. I didn’t care for that idea because the phone would get really hot. So I moved the phone to the handle bars. While using the phone in the glove box CarPlay would intermittently get disconnected and at first I thought it was internet signal problems. I would have to reach in the box and unplug the phone and then plug it back in and CarPlay would restart. It would do the same on the handle bars. Then one day I reached in to the glove box for something and barely touched the USB cable and it kicked out CarPlay. After experimenting with it I found that the least amount of movement in that cable would kick CarPlay out. So I used some painters tape and taped it to the interior wall. Problem solved. For years now I have traveled across this country with minimal loss of CarPlay extremely minimal. Has anyone else made this correlation? I tried carlinkit because I hated plugging the phone every time. I just was not a fan of the device. Nothing wrong with the device. Let me know if you guys have this problem
Thanks.
I have had this intermittent issue also from time to time. I also had the same problem in my car. It was a head scratcher, but read on some other YouTube sites to FIRST check the cables, It seems the quality of cables these days are as perplexing as what brand of oil or air filter to use on the bike (;{),
So do try this first and I found a quality braided cable 6" for the carline transmitter I store in the cubby, and in my car accessory tray. This resolved my issue so far.
Second, do check the end connectors for the cables, and spray with alcohol cleaner and dialectic spray.
Third check the usb female plugs on your car, bike ,phone, carline etc. use a toothpick to gently check and remove any dirt, lint a quick canned air spray to finish. Again a light alcohol mist, dialectic spray on a Q-tip to clean/lube to complete the process.
Otherwise the wear and tare on the USB outlet on the bike or car, over time may cause a loose fitting. So tape or a cable replacement may be the last resort, or a phone or carline warranty claim.
Just my thoughts/suggestions which worked for me.
Sounds like good advice. I’ll give it a try. I have tried different cables already. I really think the issue is the Honda cable. Just my opinion but it allows the connecting cable to move and disconnect. But I definitely will try cleaning. And post a result later. Thanks.
You might want to source a replacement or perhaps check with your dealer if it is a warranty repair? Good luck.
Good idea. I’ll change it out myself when I do my next service. Thanks.
